How does it work?

Your training plan requires a great level of detailed planning in order to assist you achieve your goals and is designed around your current fitness level and your schedule. We offer unlimited feedback to all athletes and we’re always there to give advice on all things related to running, such as cross-training, strength work, and any other areas you need assistance with.

01. Introduction

Once you sign up, we start off with an initial introduction chat which takes place either over a cup of coffee (if location permits) or via a phone call in order to gain insight and greater understanding into what makes you tick as a runner and what you’re looking for from a running coach. We’ll also discuss your training history, past performances and previous injuries.

02. Setting goals & tracking progress

From there we discuss your short-term goals, ie. what you’re looking to achieve over the next 12 months, and your long-term dreams, ie, what you want from your running beyond 12 months. If your goals are unrealistic or present an unduly injury risk we’ll assist you in setting more realistic goals to step you toward your ultimate dreams. Thereafter your online training portal account is created through which all your training is loaded and against which you upload your completed sessions and comments regarding the session.

03. Weekly feedback

The biggest and most important commitment on the part of the athlete is providing your coach with weekly feedback in terms of how the training went, what the struggles were, any niggles which are being felt, fatigue levels and current stresses. Without this feedback it is impossible for your coach to know what is and isn’t been done and whether or not you are adapting to the training. Remember that everyone is an individual and therefore everyone responds differently to training. Your coach cannot personalise your training without insight into how you are responding to it.

Ray Orchison

Owner, Therapist, Head Coach

Ray is a professional and highly qualified coach based in Perth. He has a passion for helping others achieve their goals and becoming the best that they can be. He has been coaching for over 10 years and works with all levels of athletes. He is qualified and experienced in coaching athletes across all running disciplines, from 100m through to Ultra’s. He is a qualified Remedial Massage Therapist, a certified Lyno and Muscle Activation Therapist and brings a wealth of knowledge in the area of injury prevention and rehab. Ray has invested heavily into expanding his coaching knowledge and attained the highest IAAF coaching level, IAAF Level 5 diploma, through numerous trips to the USA.

Grant Johnson

Running Coach

 
Grant lives in Johannesburg, South Africa and has has been running for 25 years and although he is relatively new to coaching his brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from achieving high levels in his running, duathlons and triathlons and is a certified NAASFP Marathon Coach. The NAASFP Marathon Coach certification is a in-depth and comprehensive North American coaching certification completed over a 2 year period.

He has achieved in all running disciplines; road running, cross-country, trail running and track. His achievements have also extended into other multi-sport disciplines and he has been selected 4 times for the South African World Duathlon Champs team and has been selected once for the South African World Triathlon Champs team.
